ClipHook ("we", "our", or "us") is a Chrome extension and web service operated by Maine Winters LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
ClipHook collects minimal data necessary to provide the service:
API key — stored locally in Chrome's storage. Never transmitted except to our API for authentication.
Usage count — the number of generations used this month, stored locally in Chrome's storage to enforce the free tier limit.
Page context — when you click Generate, the extension reads the current page's title, description, and visible text to generate relevant content. This data is sent to our backend API and immediately discarded after generation. We do not store it.
Email address — collected at checkout via Stripe when you subscribe to a paid plan. Used only to deliver your API key and transactional emails.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not track your browsing history
We do not collect personally identifiable information beyond your email (paid users only)
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
We do not use cookies or analytics trackers in the extension
We do not collect financial information (payments are handled by Stripe)
3. How We Use Your Information
To generate AI-powered hooks, captions, titles, and hashtags based on the current page context
To authenticate paid users via their API key
To enforce the free tier usage limit (10 generations/month)
To send transactional emails (API key delivery, billing receipts)
4. Third-Party Services
ClipHook uses the following third-party services:
Anthropic — AI generation. Page context is sent to Anthropic's API to generate content. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Railway — Backend hosting. Data is processed on Railway's infrastructure in the United States.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your API key and usage data are stored locally in Chrome's storage on your device and are never transmitted to our servers except for authentication purposes. Our backend API is hosted on Railway and uses industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit.
6. Data Retention
API keys are retained in our database as long as your subscription is active. Upon cancellation, your API key is deactivated. You may request deletion of your account data by emailing us at [email protected].
7. Children's Privacy
ClipHook is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of ClipHook after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
